Alkamar, the village in the moonlight

This is my attempt at building a Norwegian phonetic encoder in the Aspell format, also known as a 'phonetic soundslike'. It is a work in progress, and I plan to tune it against my own writings in the next years.

Click here to download the zip archive. It contains a file named Phonet.dat and a copy of the GPL license. Phonet.dat is just a plain text file. It may be opened in most any text editor if you want to inspect the ruleset. The comments are in English, while terms and sounds are in Norwegian - the mix may be a little confusing.

To learn the format I studied the Aspell manual. I built my own java based encoder to test the Norwegian ruleset, but I hope and trust that the phonetic encoder will work with the original Aspell program.

Here are some links I have found useful while working on my spell checking routines:

In addition, Rune Kleveland's Norwegian ispell dictionaries have been used extensively while building this ruleset.
